Alley Mural Project

Arvia is the home and starting place of an ongoing mural project that began in the alley behind Andrés’s studio roughly ten years ago. What began as a personal, meditative practice has grown into a sprawling collective work, stretching along long portions of the alley and shaped over time by visiting artists, community groups, and neighbors.

Painted murals have joined the mosaic as collaborators have added their own work to the walls, including Michael Rollins, Kira Maria Shewfelt, Luis Ramirez, and Claire Bernson. The project has also served as a hands-on canvas for the next generation of artists, hosting two years of Clockshop's summer youth fellowship as well as students from Skyrocket Education. Artists/neighbors Julia Haft-Candell and Brice Bishoff have contributed to the project through sharing their walls.

What started in the alley has since expanded throughout Cypress Park, appearing on local businesses, at neighborhood parks, and on scattered walls and street spots nearby. The project is ever-evolving as sections/pieces have been changed by weather, taken down by the city, or demolished by developers, but nevertheless- it persists!
